PROJECT DESCRIPTION

PROJECT GOAL To increase summer and winter stream habitat diversity and improve fish passage associated with culverts that currently prevent or limit fish passage.

TARGET SPECIES cutthroat trout (Oncorhynchus clarki), coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch) and steelhead trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss)

ACCESS Simpson forest road 9000 connects directly to Hwy 101 near the Jetty Fishery on Nehalem Bay. Forest road 9000 follows Jetty Creek and offers access to the creek for heavy equipment.

FROM TILLAMOOK Follow Hwy 101 north through Rockaway Beach and past Nedonna Beach. Look for the Jetty Fishery on the west side of Hwy 101 near the mouth of Nehalem Bay, do not go past the Jetty Fishery. Access to Jetty Creek is about 200 meters south of the Jetty Fishery at yellow Simpson Timber gate 8. Use key T-47 to open the gate.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION (GENERAL) There were two phases to the Jetty Creek restoration project. Phase 1 included in-stream placement of large wood at 12 sites along 830 meters of Jetty Creek and Phase 2 involved fish passage improvement (Culvert replacement) on two tributaries to Jetty Creek and one culvert on the main stem of Jetty Creek.

MATERIALS There were very few large conifers in the riparian area along Jetty Creek. Trees were taken from nearby forest areas. Whole trees, logs with root wads and logs with limbs are were used as much as possible.
