Piggy-back
Tolmeia menziesil
Grows in moist forest, stream banks near red alder, low to
middle elevation. Heart shaped leaves, 5-7 lobed and coarsely
toothed. Small buds at base of the leaf blades develop into daughter
plants, hence, the popular name.
Well developed rhizomes with flowering stems l6 to 32 inches
tall. Flowers are small, brownish purple, with four petals, opening
singly up the stalk.
