OWEB identifies three kinds of monitoring:

Validation Monitoring determines if our solutions cumulatively had the desired effect in the watershed.

Implementation Monitoring determines if watershed restoration projects were completed correctly;

Evaluation Monitoring learns whether our actions adequately addressed the problems as we expected; and

Validation Monitoring 

 These projects are designed to measure important indicators of watershed health

 Water Quality Monitoring

Each month the Watershed Councils tests water quality at 15 sites.

During the summer thermographs are placed at various sites to obtain continuous temperature readings.

In the fall the Watershed Council collects macroinvertebrates (invertebrates large enough to see with the naked eye) from local streams.

Standard Survey Counts in 2000 

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife collects extensive data on fish presence in the Nehalem Watershed.
