Public Education Outreach/Volunteer Outreach

  1. Volunteer Outreach - develop a volunteer program to coordinate, contact, organize and empower local citizens to participate in council activities. - ongoing

    Conduct an inventory of skills & interest levels possessed by council members and volunteers. ASAP & ongoing

    Develop a system for tracking volunteer hours, activities & contributions. - on a monthly & annual basis

    Develop a system for keeping volunteers informed of service opportunities, workshops, training etc... - as needed

  2. Newsletter - coordinate development, editing & distribution of council newsletter. - BI-annual
  3. Community Events - Organize & coordinate with volunteers to develop & man a watershed salmon outreach booth that has hands-on activities, informational handouts & volunteer opportunities sign-up. -- Vernonia Friendship Jamboree-August, Wheeler Salmon Festival - Sept., Oregon State fair - Sept.
  4. Schools - Work with local schools districts and educational institutions to develop opportunities for students to become involved in watershed health activities. - ongoing
  5. Attend community & committee meetings & give presentations on watershed health awareness/project activities - as needed.
  6. College Internships - develop opportunities for college students to participate in watershed council internships. - as opportunity arises through RARE, PSU & funding entities.
  7. Council meetings & public forums - organize & facilitate. monthly- as needed

    assure public notice.

    Produce agendas & minutes & mail.

    Arrange for speakers.

    Arrange for facilitators & assist with meeting facilitation.

Partnership Development

  1. Maintain open communications & continue to develop partnerships in order to increase level of support and participation in watershed health activities - ongoing

    Stakeholder groups - council members, technical advisors & project.

    Landowner - access to private lands, project development, implementation, materials, services & maintenance.

    Natural Resource Agencies- Technical advisors, project development, design implementation, maintenance, effectiveness monitoring & support.

    Interest Groups- Technical advisors, project support & monitoring.

    City, County, State & Federal Government- Project support & interpretation of programs & jurisdiction.

    Educational Institutions- hands-on curriculum development & monitoring.

    Ecosystem workforce - project development & implementation & monitoring.

    SWCD's - project support, workforce, technical advisors & fiscal agents.
