LNWC Planner Report
February 1 to February 26, 2003

North Fork Riparian #02-02-006
Flood recovery completed at the Siler, Johnson and Weisel properties. Last two properties, Stanton and Gordon, planted Saturday the 16th. Project is now near completion except for some fencing at Weisels and clean-up. We have developed effective beaver protection scheme during this project.

BLM Cooperative Nursery
Transported three council members to the BLM nursery on Tuesday, February 19 for another work day. 1,000 Sitka Spruce seedlings and a lesser number each of Mountain Ash and Grand Fir were potted by the ~12 attendees.

Small Grant Admin General
One $10,000 application is in process for a tide gate on Hoquarton Slough. Have taken issue with the validity of this application it may not have habitat benefits.

Johnson's North Fork Scour
Manual plotting of the North Fork cross-sections 80% complete. Will be shooting QA elevations with a laser transit in March with NRCS staff.

Siler Wetlands Restoration
No feedback to date on TA application to OWEB. Rescheduled site elevations survey to early March with NRCS staff.

Roy Creek #200-101
HLB's design work will be completed by the March 30 deadline.

2003 Estuary Clean-up
Assisting Vivi Tallman and Georgenne Ferdun with the April 5 event which is on the same day as the annual SOLV Spring Beach Cleanup. Doug Firstbrook, the institutional memory for this bi-annual event, is providing valuable guidance and assistance.

Hatchery Handicap Riparian Trail
Education application completed and submitted for OWEB's February 15 regular grant cycle.

Wetlands Inventory
Provided maps and information for upcoming federal wetlands inventory.

NKN Creek
Provided high flow photos from recent flood to ODOT for planning purposes. Also inquired about status of modeling new grade from lake outfall. Advised that there will be a planning meeting to review status this Spring.

Knotweed Suppression
Drafting an OWEB Small Grant for a test plot on the Nehalem to evaluate viability of using fast-growing Black Cottonwoods as a weapon against Japanese Knotweed. BLM can provide native Black Cottonwoods. Grant is primarily to cover monthly and bi-monthly knotweed cutting, mileage and monitor test site results. Only mechanical cutting will be utilized on the knotweed.

Outreach
Several agricultural owners approached for riparian plantings on their holdings. Some may qualify for OWEB Small Grant TA's for planning purposes.

Misc.
Have opened a dialog with Tillamook Youth Authorities on use of their charges for riparian planting projects.
