Curly Dock
not native
Curly dock is the most widespread Runzex species. It is a
robust perennial herb, up to three feet tall, that grows from
a stout taproot. The leaves are narrow (1 to 2 inches) and strap-like
with crisp, curly edges. The upper leaves are smaller than those
below.
The stems are unbranched up to the many elongate flower clusters.
The petals have a grain-like enlargement centered toward their
base. This European weed is now widely established in cultivated
fields and pastures and occasionally invades rangelands.
